Alabama commercial license plates delayed because of aluminum supply chain issues

The production of Alabama commercial license plates has been delayed because of a widespread aluminum shortage.

Alabama officials say that commercial license plates are the only license plates that are being affected by supply chain issues, according to a report on Al.com. The plates are produced at Alabama’s Holman Correctional Facility in Escambia County.

Other states, including Montana, Arizona, and North Carolina have had interruptions in license plate production due to the widespread metal shortage, the Associated Press reported.

Alabama officials hope that the issues will be resolved soon and that the remaining commercial license plate orders will be delivered by the end of the month.

In the meantime, some commercial vehicle owners are receiving temporary paper tags when they renew their registration.
