Alabama man ejected, killed in Sunday night crash, state troopers report

An Alabama man was killed Sunday night when his vehicle rear-ended a large SUV, state troopers said.

The two-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 6:11 p.m. Sunday, and claimed the life of a Verbena, Alabama, man.

Phillip L. Williams, 41, was fatally injured when the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas he was driving struck the rear-end of the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Kayla T. Montgomery, 35, of Jemison, Alabama.

After the initial collision, the Volkswagen partially left the roadway and overturned.

Williams was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash, was ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash occurred on U.S. 31 near the 208 mile marker, approximately 3 miles south of Verbena, in Chilton County.
