Alabama pedestrian struck and killed by pickup truck, state troopers say

An Alabama man was killed after he was struck by a vehicle early Thursday morning, state troopers said.

The single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian occurred at approximately 4:55 a.m. Thursday, and claimed the life of a Jasper, Alabama, man.

The pedestrian, Marcus C. Boteler, 27, who was in the roadway, was critically injured when he was struck by the 2007 Ford F-150 driven by Philip L. Downs, 57, of Warrior.

Boteler was airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The crash occurred on Alabama 5 near the 163 mile marker, approximately six miles southeast of Nauvoo, in Walker County.
