An Alabama woman was convicted of reckless manslaughter for the New Year’s Eve 2020 shooting death of a man in which she got into an altercation.

The Mobile County jury convicted Kiya Henderson of reckless manslaughter, the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office reported in a written news release.

Henderson reportedly got into an argument with David Green, 31, at the Main Street Food Mart in Prichard, Alabama, and Green wound up shot in the back. Green initially survived the shooting, but later died of his injuries.

“This type of violence took place at a public establishment, where a number of innocent shoppers could have been potentially injured, if not killed,” said Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood. “My office will continue to prosecute those offenders who must be held responsible for their appalling actions.”

Henderson’s sentencing was set for June 14, 2024. She faces a sentencing range of 2-20 years in prison.
