Alabama man fell into lake while boating, his body was found hours later, state police say

An Alabama man was killed this week when he fell into Lake Eufaula while to he was trying to tie up a boat to a a bridge, state police said.

The marine-related event occurred at approximately 4:50 p.m. Wednesday, and claimed the life of a Dothan man.

Will A. Newman, 64, fell from a 2019 21-foot Bayliner while attempting to secure the vessel to the Cheneyhatchee Creek Bridge on Lake Eufaula.

Newman’s body was recovered at 7:55 p.m., approximately 15 yards from where he fell into the water. Newman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The following agencies responded and assisted with the search and recovery effort: the Henry County Rescue Squad, Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Law Enforcement, Eufaula Fire Department, Eufaula Rescue Squad, Eufaula Police Department and Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Marine Patrol Division. Nothing further is available as ALEA Marine Patrol Troopers continue to investigate.
