An Alabama pedestrian who was struck and killed by a motorist on Sunday night was killed by someone who was street racing, investigators say.

Birmingham police said they believe that Geremy Earl Fantroy, 43, was struck Sunday night by someone who was street racing on Bessemer Road.

The driver of that vehicle fled the scene.

Although no one has been charged directly with Fantroy’s death, police said they have charged someone with felony attempting to elude a police officer. That person was involved in the accident, police said.

Police said as they arrived on the scene, the racers all fled and one of them struck Fantroy.
