In less than 25 hours, a GoFundMe page has raised nearly $40,0000 to support the family of 14-year-old Elliott Hernandez, who was killed in this week’s EF-3 tornado.
Both of Hernandez’s parents were also injured, and their home is a total loss, according to the GoFundMe.
“Saraid, Elliott’s mother has been released from UAB Hospital, where she was receiving treatment. His father, Oscar is still recovering from his injuries in the hospital,” a post on the fundraising site said. “Their home is also a total loss and they are overwhelmed with the need for basic items as well as funeral costs. Please consider donating, but mostly, keep the family in your prayers as they navigate through this difficult time.”
The site was set up by one of the coworkers of Elliot’s father.
On Wednesday, Governor Kay Ivey toured the damage in Fultondale and said Elliot Hernandez’s death was “beyond heartbreaking.”
