An Alabama man received a 30-year prison sentence Wednesday for his role in a fatal, Fourth of July boating accident that killed two people.
Damion Bruno, 41, of Clanton, pleaded guilty in December to two charges of reckless murder, the Montgomery Advertiser newspaper reported.
Elmore County District Judge Glenn Goggans sentenced Bruno Wednesday, handing down 30-year sentences for each count. The sentences will run concurrently.
Records show Bruno was operating his boat while legally drunk, when it collided with another on the night of July 4 on Lake Jordan.
Devin Clay Jackson, 26, of Deatsville and Travis Lee House, 17, of Marbury, were killed. Five others were injured.
Family members of the two deceased victims told Bruno they forgave him for the deaths during the emotional court sentencing, the newspaper reported.
