How gas prices have changed in Montgomery in the last week
Costs to fill up at the pump continue to trend lower this week, and analysts expect the national average could dip below $3 by October. Prices are already sitting at three-year lows for this time of year, according to historical AAA gas price data.
“We fully expect gas prices will continue to drop as Americans drive less with the onset of fall,” GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan said in a statement Monday. “With oil prices falling below $70 per barrel, their lowest since 2021, there’s solid room for gas prices and diesel to continue falling for some time.”
Helping push the national average down has been an ample domestic supply of gasoline, lower demand from drivers, and cheaper costs for a barrel of oil, which was trading below $70 over the past week. As hurricane activity heats up in the Gulf of Mexico, however, the situation at the pumps could change. A storm forming in the Gulf is expected to become a hurricane later this week and make landfall somewhere along the Texas and Louisiana coastlines.
