An Alabama man was killed early Friday when his car struck a utility pole and then a ditch, state troopers said.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 12:05 a.m. Friday, and claimed the life of a Montgomery, Alabama, man.

David L. Comer, 36, was fatally injured when the 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis he was driving left the roadway, struck a utility pole and a ditch before overturning, state troopers said.

Comer was pronounced deceased at the scene. The crash occurred on U.S. 80 near the 119 mile marker, approximately 8 miles north of Hayneville, in Lowndes County.
