An elderly Alabama man was killed Sunday after he was reportedly attacked by his neighbor’s dogs, sheriff’s investigators said.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to a resident on County Road 264 in Town Creek Sunday afternoon.

Arriving deputies found Willard Norton, 83, unresponsive by his front door. He was transported to a local hospital, but later died from his wounds.

Norton’s family members including some of his grandchildren told local media that Norton was gardening in his front yard when two dogs attacked him.

Deputies said the dogs were confiscated and taken to the Lawrence County Animal Shelter while the matter is investigated.
