Alabama man drowns while helping dock pontoon boat on Memorial Day

An Alabama man drowned Monday evening as he was attempting to help dock a pontoon boat near Logan Martin Lake.

Officials Alabama Law Enforcement Agency report that the fatal marine-related incident occurred at approximately 10 p.m. Monday, May 27.

Delbert W. Shaw, 72, of Riverside, fell into the water and drowned while attempting to help dock a 2016 21-ft Crest Pontoon boat.

The incident occurred near Rebecca Lane in a slough on Logan Martin Lake in St. Clair County.

Shaw’s body was recovered at approximately 11:46 p.m. by the Pell City Fire and Rescue Dive Team, approximately 20 yards from where he fell into the water.

The following agencies responded to the scene and assisted with the search and recovery effort the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, Pell City Police Department, Pell City Fire and Rescue, Riverside Police Department, Riverside Fire and Rescue along with Troopers from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Marine Patrol Division. Nothing further is available as ALEA Marine Patrol Troopers continue to investigate.
