On May 8, 2024, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division executed numerous arrests as part of an ongoing fraud investigation.

In September 2023, an area financial institution started experiencing an influx of transfer fraud. Account information was fraudulently obtained and funds fraudulently transferred from the victim’s accounts and into other accounts.

The funds were then used through various means: ATM withdrawals, in-store or online purchases, and Cash App. To date, there has been a total of over $3,453,655.72 in attempted transfers with a total loss of over $2,000,397.01. The investigation is ongoing with additional arrests expected.

Morgan County Sheriff’s Office Investigators were assisted by the FBI, Army Criminal Investigations Division, and Green Research Technology.
