Man killed when SUV strikes traffic sign, flips into river, Alabama state troopers said

A man was killed Thursday morning when his SUV struck a traffic sign, flipped over and landed in a river, Alabama state troopers said.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 6:55 a.m. Thursday, and claimed the life of a Louisville man.

James Otis McCray, 66, was fatally injured when the 2000 Honda CR-V he was driving left the roadway, struck a posted traffic sign, and overturned before going into a river.

McCray was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene, troopers said.

The crash occurred on Alabama 130 near the 5 mile marker, approximately six miles east of Banks city limits, in Pike County.
