Alabama Skies: A couple of strong storms possible Wednesday as the weather pattern changes across the state

Wednesday will bring a chance for some storms for the northern half of the state with a slight chance for a strong to severe storm in northern Alabama.

According to the Storm Prediction Center, a Level 1 risk covers about a third of the state from the Tennessee state line to just south of Birmingham and Tuscaloosa. Although storms are possible farther south, we’re not expecting severe weather to impact other areas.

Wednesday also begins a stretch of cloudy days with at least a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm through Sunday for northern and central Alabama.

There will also be plenty of clouds with several chances of rain in southern Alabama through Sunday with a sunshine break part of the day Thursday.

North Alabama

Showers and storms are likely until mid-afternoon, then isolated showers are possible. High of 77. Wednesday night, mostly cloudy with a low of 64.

Central Alabama

A chance of showers and thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon. High of 78. Mostly cloudy overnight with a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the evening. Low of 62.

South Alabama

Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of a shower. High of 81. Mostly cloudy Wednesday night with a low of 63.

Gulf Coast

Mostly cloudy with a high of 78. Overnight, mostly cloudy with a low of 64.
