Alabama woman beaten to death as child watched

An Alabama woman was apparently beaten to death early Sunday as a child watched, officials and arrest records indicated.

Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Lanetta Mechelle Palacios, 32, was killed early Sunday at her residence on Timber Leaf Loop in the McCalla area.

Yates said Palacios’ death came as a result of apparent blunt force trauma during a domestic dispute. Although Yates said the time of her injury was not clear, she was pronounced dead at the scene when her body was discovered at approximately 4:31 a.m.

Jefferson County Jail records show that Peter Pablo Palacios, 36, of Bessemer, was arrested Sunday a few hours after the body was found.

Peter Palacios was charged with capital murder in the the presence of at least one child under the age of 14.

He was being held Monday without bond in the Jefferson County Jail.

Neither the exact relationship between the victim and the suspect nor the circumstanced that led up to the murder were released by investigators.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating the murder.
