One man dead, four others including three children injured in head-on crash, Alabama troopers say

An Alabama man was killed Monday night when his car struck a large SUV head-on, state troopers said.

The two-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 7:34 p.m. Monday, and claimed the life of a Bremen man.

Cody L. Self, 33, was fatally injured when the 2006 Mazda 3I that he was driving collided head-on with the 2016 GMC Yukon driven by Megan D. Swidecki, 38, of Hanceville.

Self was not using a seat belt at the time of crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The passengers of the GMC: Kelley M. Waunch, 61, a 7-year-old, an 8-year-old, and a 10-year-old, all of Hanceville, were injured and transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The crash occurred on Cullman County 38 near Cullman County 46, approximately three miles south of Dodge City, in Cullman County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
