How gas prices have changed in Dothan in the last week
The national average for gasoline has gone up about 10 cents from a week ago as American drivers enter the time of year when they can expect seasonal price increases at the gas pump.
“We’re entering spring break season, and historically, March and April bring higher gas prices as demand rises,” AAA spokesperson Aixa Diaz said in a recent statement. “With milder temperatures come more road trips, and this time of year tends to be a precursor to the summer driving season.”
Record U.S. oil production and low demand over the winter months have kept prices tame, but that may not last as warmer temperatures arrive. The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries has been cutting production to boost the price of oil, and U.S. reserves are nearing typical levels recorded in the five-year average, according to a GasBuddy analysis of an Energy Information Administration report.
