Army helicopter crashes in Alabama woods, two soldiers injured

A U.S. Army helicopter crashed in Alabama Friday afternoon during a training mission; fortunately both pilots escaped with only minor injuries.

The crash occurred near Banks in Pike County.

The UH-72 Lakota helicopter was based at Fort Novosel in Dale County.

Pike County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the scene in the woods near County Road 4405 and Alabama 130 at approximately 2:35 p.m.

The pilots were being treated for minor injuries, authorities said.

No one on the ground was injured.

Exactly what caused the helicopter to go down was still under investigation, officials at Fort Novosel said.
