The mother and father of a 4-year-old boy who vanished from his home last month have been charged with chemical endangerment of their son, Alabama state police said Wednesday.

Shyanne Nicole Ray, 25, of Clayton and Joshua Thad Wilkerson, 39, of Abbeville were arrested and charged with two counts of chemical endangerment of their son.

The 4-year-old boy, Phenix, vanished from his mother’s home on January 12, sparking a search by law enforcement for nearly two days before he was found.

State police said the charges were not directly related to the disappearance of the child, but were the result of the investigation into the child’s disappearance.

The parents were arrested on Wednesday in Henry County, police said.

The boy is non-verbal and investigators believe he walked away from the house and spend days alone in the woods before he was rescued.
