A 16-year-old girl pulled a gun Tuesday during an argument with a teenage boy at an Alabama high school shooting the boy and wounding a 17-year-old bystander, police said.

The incident happened midday Tuesday at the LeFlore High School in Mobile.

The 16-year-old girl has been charged with two counts of assault, possession a weapon on school grounds and discharging a firearm into a school.

She surrendered to police with the assistance of her parents.

Officers were called to the school just after noon.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered that a 16-year-old female juvenile had engaged in a verbal altercation with a 15-year-old male victim,” Mobile police said in a statement. “During the argument, the female subject produced a handgun and shot the 15-year-old, causing a superficial wound.”

The bullet she allegedly fired also struck a 17-year-old boy who was uninvolved in the altercation.

The bystander suffered non-life-threatening injuries, polices said.
