A motorcyclist was killed last weekend after his Harley-Davidson motorcycle veered off the road and struck a ditch, Alabama state troopers said.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 1 a.m. Saturday, and claimed the life of a Cypress Inn, Tenn. man.

Jerry W. Copeland, 62, was fatally injured when the 2003 Harley-Davidson motorcycle he was operating left the roadway and struck a drainage ditch.

Copeland was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash occurred on Lauderdale County 5 near Graceland Drive, approximately 10 miles north of Florence, in Lauderdale County.

Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
