An Alabama man clearing brush from his backyard found what turned out to be human skull and has led police to believe the skeleton belonged to person reported missing in 2019.

The potential break in the missing person’s case began on Saturday when a resident of the 2800 block of Bridlewood Terrace, in Helena, Alabama, notified the Helena Police Department that while he was clearing brush in his back yard, he discovered what appeared to be a human skull.

HPD officers responded and upon arrival, confirmed the skull appeared to be human and notified our Detective Bureau.

Upon a secondary search by the Detectives, additional skeletal remains were located in the same area.
With the assistance of the Shelby County Major Crimes Task Force and the Shelby County Coroner’s Office, the remains were exhumed and are now at the Alabama Department of Forensic Science in Montgomery for additional examination.

A previous resident of the home was reported missing in 2019 and Detectives believe the remains could be of that individual. Police said they are awaiting the results of the DFS examination to identify the remains.
