An Alabama man has been charged with manslaughter in the death of his wife two weeks after the car he was driving veered off the road, struck a ditch and became submerged in a body of water, state troopers said.

Robert E. Jones, 57, of Florence, Alabama, was arrested Thursday and charged with manslaughter in connection to the death of his wife Regina L. Jones, 62, also of Florence.

The wreck occurred on December 30 on Lauderdale County Road 65, near Killen, Alabama, state troopers said.

Regina Jones was pronounced dead at the scene. Robert Jones was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
