Alabama man killed, three others injured when truck strikes tree, state troopers say

An Alabama man was killed and three others injured Friday when his truck left the road and struck a tree, state troopers said.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. Friday, and claimed the life of a Grant, Alabama, man.

Steven T. Winston, 25, was fatally injured when the 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche that he was driving left the roadway and struck a tree.

Winston was not using his seat belt at the time of crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The passengers of the Chevrolet, Hunter C. Nickell, 23; Braden T. Nickell, 22; and Noah C. Burns, 22, all of Grant, were injured and transported to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital (UAB) for treatment.

Both Braden T. Nickell and Noah C. Burns were not using their seat belts at the time of crash. The crash occurred on Alabama 79 near mile marker 40, approximately two miles east of Blountsville, in Blount County.
