Mississippi deputy, suspect killed after 3-county police chase

More details have been revealed about the fatal shooting of a Mississippi deputy and a shooting suspect Thursday evening.
Officials with the George County Sheriff’s Office have identified the deputy who was killed by a shooting suspect as Deputy Jeremy Malone.
The shooting that killed Deputy Malone occurred shortly after 5 p.m.
According to a GCSO news release, the shooting occurred during a traffic stop at the intersection of Highway 98 and Brushy Creek Road in Rocky Creek, George County.
“The suspect, who will later be identified, led other law enforcement officers and law enforcement agencies on a vehicle pursuit out of George County,” the release said. “We ask that you keep Deputy Malone’s family, as well as the George County Sheriff’s Office and community in your thoughts and prayers.”
Officials with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation have also released a statement about the shooting that ended with the death of a Mississippi deputy and a shooting suspect.

A George County Sheriff’s Deputy initiated a traffic stop with a subject at a location on Highway 98 in Lucedale, Mississippi.
While the deputy was approaching the vehicle, the subject fatally shot the deputy and fled the scene.
Multiple agencies were made aware of this incident and began to respond.
The suspect led police on a chase through George, Greene and Perry counties.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol and George County Sheriff’s Department engaged the subject near Beaumont, Mississippi, where multiple rounds were fired.
The subject received fatal injuries at this location.
MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence.
Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
