Alabama 3-year-old dies of apparent drowning, police say

A 3-year-old Alabama child was pronounced dead Saturday from an apparent drowning, police said.

Alexander City Police Department officers responded to the Bay Pine area in reference to a missing 3-year-old juvenile. According to the release, several officers from surrounding agencies arrived to assist in the search.

After searching the area, the 3-year-old was located submerged in water and pronounced deceased from an apparent drowning.

Law enforcement said the investigation was still active and no further details could be released at this time.

The juvenile’s grandmother said the child was in the car during a high-speed chase that began in Elmore County and ended in Alexander City on Friday. According to her, the child was taken into Department of Social Services custody on Friday night and the juvenile was reported missing the next morning. Law enforcement did not confirm these details.
