An Alabama man lying in a road was killed Friday when a passing pickup struck him, Alabama state troopers said.

Jimmy L. Mullally, 49, of Heflin, Alabama, was reportedly lying in Cleburne County Road 19 when a 2012 Toyota Tacoma struck him. He was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

The collision occurred approximately 5 miles south of Heflin.

Investigators said they were uncertain why Mullally was lying in the road.

The incident remains under investigation.
