An Alabama man was charged with murder this week after police said they found the remains of the man’s father buried in a makeshift grave in the suspect’s backyard.

Birmingham police said Ledarius “Tre” Cash, 30, was initially charged with abuse of a corpse last month in connection with the disappearance of Donald Cash, 52, who was Ledarius Cash’s father.

The elder Cash was reported missing in September.

After a search warrant on Ledarius Cash’s home was executed, investigators found suspected human remains buried in the backyard.

Forensic investigators said their autopsy shows the victim had been shot and on Wednesday, coroner’s officials confirmed to police that the body was identified as belonging to Donald Cash.

Ledarius Cash’s charges were then upgraded to murder, police said.
