A convicted child abuser and murderer of his own child died Tuesday in an Alabama prison, officials said.

Eric Rotray Payne, 31, was found dead inside the William Donaldson Correctional Facility in Jefferson County, coroner’s officials said.

Payne was reportedly found at approximately midnight on Tuesday. He was pronounced dead at approximately 12:39 a.m., Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Wednesday.

Yates said no evidence of foul play or trauma was found in the autopsy and the cause of death was pending laboratory results.

Payne was serving a life sentence after he was convicted in 2015 of killing his 8-month-old daughter, Jaliah.
