A police chase ended with an innocent motorist hospitalized with severe injuries and a suspect jailed after police said he was running from police with a large amount of drugs and a 3-year-old child in his vehicle.

The crash happened on Dauphin Island Parkway and Old Military Road, FOX10-TV reported on Christmas Day.

The suspect reportedly ran a red light while fleeing police and collided with another motorist. The impact caused the other motorist to be ejected from their vehicle, police said.

Police told the TV station that the suspect had a 3-year-old child as a passenger. The child was reportedly not harmed in the accident. The suspect was detained and charges are expected.

The innocent motorist was reportedly hospitalized for life-threatening injuries.
