What appeared to be a routine traffic accident earlier this month wound up as a murder investigation, polices said, after realizing the victim inside the car had been shot.

The man who was badly injured after being thrown from the vehicle quickly became the primary suspect.

Mobile police said Keeman Marcellus Tover, 21, was arrested Thursday and charged with murder after he was released from a hospital where he was treated for severe injuries he received in a December 1 traffic accident.

Officers responding to the accident found Tamichael Brown, 20, dead inside the vehicle. Investigators quickly realized she had been shot.

Police said Tover was thrown from the vehicle during the accident and taken to a hospital with major injuries.

Police believe Tover and Brown got into a fight leading to his shooting the woman.
