Two dead, one officer injured in early morning Alabama fire

A house fire early Thursday killed an elderly Alabama couple, local media reported.

The fire happened in Dale County on Highway 229 near the intersection with U.S. 231, north of Ozark, WDHN-TV reported.

The station reported that Dale County Coroner John Cawley was on the scene, but that the names of the victims were being withheld pending notification of the victim’s family.

Details of what caused the fire were not immediately available.

WSFA-TV reported that an Ozark, Alabama, police officer who was helping to direct traffic near the fire was injured when a vehicle struck the officer. The officer was hospitalized but was considered in stable condition.
