Duck hunter believed drowned after kayak capsizes, Alabama state police say

A duck hunter went missing Saturday morning when his kayak capsized and the hunter never resurfaced, Alabama law enforcement officials said.

The accident happened at approximately 8 a.m. Saturday, when the person’s kayak capsized causing the hunter to go beneath the water and never resurface, state police said.

The incident occurred on Lake Guntersville near Goose Pond Resort in Jackson County.

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Marine Patrol Division, ALEA’s Aviation Unit, Officers with the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) along with the Scottsboro and Jackson County Rescue Squads immediately launched a search for the missing hunter.

The hunter has not been located; however, the search effort will continue and ALEA Marine Patrol Troopers will also continue to monitor the situation and provide updates accordingly.
