Alabama pedestrian struck, killed in hit and run, police say

An Alabama man was killed Thursday evening when he was walking across a street and was struck by a motorist who didn’t stop, police said.
Erskin Dewayne Jacobs, 59, of Athens, Alabama, was struck at approximately 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening when he was crossing the street near the intersection of U.S. 72 and Hine Street, Athens police said.
Jacobs was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but died later of the injuries he sustained in the accident.
The vehicle suspected of striking Jacobs did not stop, police said, and reported it was a tan or beige Honda CRV with likely damage on the front and driver’s rearview mirror.
