Alabama woman killed in head-on collision with 18-wheeler, state troopers say

An Alabama woman was killed Thursday morning when her SUV collided, head-on with a tractor-trailer, state troopers said.

The two-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. Thursday, and claimed the life of an Addison, Alabama, woman.

Leigh B. Johnson, 42, was fatally injured when the 1999 Dodge Durango that she was driving collided head-on with the 2023 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by Shannon L. Johnson, 51, of Cullman.

Leigh B. Johnson was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Shannon L. Johnson was injured and transported to Cullman Regional Medical Center in Cullman.

The crash occurred on U.S. 278 near the 61 mile marker, approximately four miles east of Addison, in Winston County.
