An Alabama man and woman were arrested Sunday after police say they attempted to smuggle knives, wire cutters and a night vision scope into a state prison.

Natalia Ridgeway and Charles Xavier Marshall, both of Mobile, were arrested and charged with attempting to promote prison contraband, Alabama corrections officials said.

The pair were arrested after corrections officers at the Fountain Correctional Facility in Atmore, Alabama, spotted a suspicious vehicle outside the facility.

Corrections officials said Marshall is a former state prison inmate. Two children were also in the vehicle with Marshall and Ridgeway, state officials said.

Contraband investigators seized included cell phones, wire cutters, a night vision monocular and at least four knives.
