Shootout in Alabama neighborhood ends with one man dead, multiple houses hit, police report

A man was killed during an apparent shootout in an Alabama neighborhood that ended with multiple houses being hit by gunfire.
According to a nes relase. the Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday, December 2, 2023.
The victim has been identified as Courtney Spencer, (24), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
Just before 4 p.m., the Birmingham 911 Communications Division began receiving multiple calls of a shootout taking place in the Inglenook Community.
East Precinct officers were dispatched to the 3400 Block of 38th Place North on report of a Person Shot.
Officers arrived on the scene and then observed a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence. Upon further investigation, officers observed the victim inside the vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
The preliminary investigation suggests a shooting took place in the 3400 Block of 38th Place North; the victim was struck by gunfire. Multiple houses were shot into. No additional gunshot victims.
There is no one in custody.
