A high-speed police chase that ended with a crash into a landmark Alabama jewelry store early Saturday morning didn’t prevent the store from opening up to customers hours later.
“As many of you know, a car chase ended with a crash into our Mountain Brook store. Call it a Christmas miracle-we are open for business as usual!” Bromberg’s in Mountain Brook posted on their website.
Mountain Brook Police report that on Saturday, Dec. 2, at approximately 2:35 a.m., a Mountain Brook Police Officer was conducting routine patrols when he observed a suspicious vehicle/person in the 3600 Block of Montevallo Road.
The driver of the vehicle immediately fled upon seeing the officer, driving recklessly and at a high rate of speed.
The Officer activated their emergency lights and siren in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop and continued westbound on Montevallo Road at a high rate of speed. As the vehicle approached Mountain Brook Village, the driver lost control while crossing Cahaba Road and wrecked into the storefront of Bromberg’s.
The driver of the vehicle fled into the store, and after approximately 25 minutes, Officers took the driver into custody without incident or injuries.
“We’d like to thank the Mountain Brook Police Department, those that helped at the scene of the accident, and our community for their support,” Bromberg’s posted on Facebook. “We are so grateful this accident occurred while the store was closed and our employees and customers were not inside.”
Further investigation revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen, and the driver had two felony warrants for his arrest. An update will be provided when formal charges have been filed.
