Driver accused of striking, killing pedestrian at Alabama intersection two years ago arrested in Atlanta

A man who police say struck and killed a pedestrian near an Alabama intersection two years ago has been arrested in Atlanta.

Florence Police report that Marlin “Javier” Lopez , 50, was located in Atlanta, Georgia, and is now being held in the Lauderdale County Detention Center with no bond.

In December 2021, police responded to a report of a pedestrian having been struck by a vehicle on Chisholm Road near the intersection with E. Rasch Road.

Lori Avery, 56, was identified as the victim and pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck.

Investigators were able to identify the vehicle that was involved in the incident and learned that the driver of the vehicle was Lopez.

On Dec. 26, 2021, police say a patrol officer located the Nissan in the 100 block of S. Kirkman Street in Florence.

A warrant for leaving the scene of an accident with injury was issued for Lopez.

Police say investigators exhausted all leads locally to locate Lopez and requested assistance from the United States Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Task Force as well as the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
