A Texas man and a Georgia man died in an early morning head-on collision Saturday.

The two-vehicle crash occurred shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 65 near the 51-mile marker 12 miles south of Atmore, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Sgt. Jeremy Burkett said in a release that Augustine R. Beene, 29, of Livingston, Texas, was fatally injured when the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder he was driving collided head-on with the 2023 Kia Niro, which was driven by Antonio L. Minniefield, 49, of Decatur, Ga., who was also fatally injured.

“Both Beene and Minniefield were pronounced deceased at the scene,” Burkett said. “The crash occurred on Interstate 65 near the 51-mile marker, approximately 12 miles south of Atmore, in Escambia County.”

Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
