Alabama man killed when car veers off road, strikes culvert and flips over, troopers said

An Alabama man was killed Wednesday night when his car veered off a road, struck a culvert and overturned, state troopers said.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, and claimed the life of a Cottonwood, Alabama, man.

Woodrow Wilson Herring Jr., 80, was fatally injured when the 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis he was driving left the roadway, struck a culvert, and overturned, state troopers said.

Herring was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash occurred on Houston County 55, approximately five miles south of Ashford, in Houston County.
