Bicyclist in critical condition, driver arrested after hit-and-run, Alabama police say

A woman bicyclist was critically injured Saturday when she was struck by a motorist, and the suspected driver who left the scene has been arrested, Alabama police said.

The accident happened Saturday on North College Street in Auburn, Alabama, police said. Officers arriving on the scene found an unresponsive woman on the side of the road after suffering what appeared to be injuries sustained from a collision with a car, police said.

The bicyclist was last reported to be in stable, but critical condition at a hospital.

On Sunday, police arrested Thomasina Smith, 40, of Alexander City, Alabama, and charged her with leaving the scene of an accident.

Smith was last being held on a $10,000 bond.
