With months of recent drought conditions, some people may forget we are in the middle of our secondary severe weather season. That, plus so many schools are out this week for Thanksgiving, can create a dangerous situation with our approaching severe weather risk.

Specific details from the National Weather Service offices covering the state follow:

North Alabama

“A low chance of strong to severe storms exists Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning for all of northern AL and southern middle TN- bringing the potential for gusty to damaging winds, heavy rainfall/flooding, and frequent lightning. Be sure to secure loose, outdoor objects ahead of this event to prevent injury/loss of property. Stay weather aware and check back for updates and have more than one way to receive weather information. Remember- if you can hear thunder or see lightning, head inside!”

Central/South

“There is a Marginal Risk of severe weather Monday night into Tuesday. Main threats will be damaging winds and a brief tornado possible. The timing graphic is an estimate and may be adjusted as we get closer.”

Gulf

“There is the potential for some strong to severe storms Monday night into Tuesday morning across the area. Severe storms that develop will be capable of wind gusts to 60 mph, and a few tornadoes are possible.”
