U.S. District Court Judge Annemarie Axon sentenced Shawn Jerome Scott, Jr, 25, of Hueytown, to 161 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute 5 grams or more of methamphetamine, felon in possession of a firearm, possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, and carrying a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. Scott pleaded guilty to the charges in August.

Scott attempted to flee the scene but struck a brick pillar and became wedged between the pillar and a parked vehicle. During the search of the vehicle, officers seized methamphetamine and a loaded Glock 9mm pistol.
On August 20, 2022, Birmingham police officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Scott. Scott fled at a high rate of speed while swerving in and out of traffic. The pursuit ended when Scott crashed into another vehicle at an intersection. During the search of the vehicle, officers seized a Glock 9mm pistol equipped with a “Glock switch,” and 81.1 grams of methamphetamine.
