A convicted felon was sentenced Wednesday on drug and gun charges, announced U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona and Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Special Agent in Charge Marcus Watson and FBI Special Agent in Charge Carlton Peeples

U.S. District Court Judge Annemarie Axon sentenced Shawn Jerome Scott, Jr, 25, of Hueytown, to 161 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute 5 grams or more of methamphetamine, felon in possession of a firearm, possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, and carrying a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. Scott pleaded guilty to the charges in August.

According to the plea agreement, in two separate incidents officers conducted a traffic stop on Scott. In both incidents he was driving a stolen vehicle. On November 26, 2021, a Bessemer police officer initiated a traffic stop on Scott in a hotel parking lot. Scott attempted to flee the scene but struck a brick pillar and became wedged between the pillar and a parked vehicle. During the search of the vehicle, officers seized methamphetamine and a loaded Glock 9mm pistol.

On August 20, 2022, Birmingham police officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Scott. Scott fled at a high rate of speed while swerving in and out of traffic. The pursuit ended when Scott crashed into another vehicle at an intersection. During the search of the vehicle, officers seized a Glock 9mm pistol equipped with a “Glock switch,” and 81.1 grams of methamphetamine.
