A 1-year-old Alabama child was killed Friday when the car in which he was driving was struck by a tractor-trailer, state troopers said.

The two-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 2:29 p.m. Friday,and claimed the life of a Valley, Alabama, child.

The 1-year-old was critically injured when the 2005 Toyota Camry the child was a passenger in was struck by the 2006 Mack tractor-trailer driven by Christopher C. Caldwell, 51, of Alex City.

The 1-year-old was transported to an area hospital, where the child was later pronounced deceased. The driver of the Toyota, Patricia M. McCollough, 79, of Lanett was also injured and transported to East Alabama Medical Center Lanier in Valley for treatment.

The crash occurred on Alabama 50 near the 51 mile marker, approximately 2 miles west of Lanett, in Chambers County.
