Alabama sheriff shuts down bingo hall citing violations

An Alabama bingo hall has been shut down due to what the local sheriff said were violations in the law that allows non-profit bingo organizations to exist.

The Palace Bingo in Greene County was closed by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office after the sheriff said the bingo facility was given multiple warnings about alleged violations on Amendment 743, WBRC-TV reported.

That amendment limits the value of prizes to be given out to bingo winners.

“Our actions in court and at Palace Bingo represent the surest path to protecting bingo and the economic investment it was designed to bring to our County,” Greene County Sheriff Jonathan Benison said.
