An Alabama woman who was found dead on the side of the road last week was attacked and killed by a dog, the local coroner’s office reported Monday.

Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said the victim was identified as Sharon Kaye Billups Portis, 63, of Birmingham.

Portis’ body was found on the side of 18th Street in Ensley, officials said.

Her bicycle was found near her body and she was often known to ride a bicycle.

Details of the dog attack were unclear.
