An Alabama serial rapist was sentenced to 776 years in prison Monday after he was convicted of rape, sexual torture and sodomy charges.

Johnathan Fitzgerald “Master” Lockett, 39, of was arrested in November 2020 and was later indicted on dozens of charges involving 12 different victims. Only five of the 12 cases have gone to trial.

Lockett allegedly victimized women who were struggling financially and had turned to prostitution.

Victims testified that Lockett set up dates with them, but those dates turned violent. They accused him of raping them, including with a pistol he stole from one victim. He also was accused of violently beating some victims.

Lockett maintained that the sexual encounters were consensual and told the court he forgave the victims for making up lies about him. His forgiveness was not well received as Judge Shanta Craig Owens said the statement was a slap in the face of the victims.

Although he can appeal the sentence, Judge Owens sentenced him to 776 years in state prison. The sentences are to be served consecutively.
