An Alabama jury convicted a man of murdering an undercover police officer has been sentenced to die for the crime.

A jury on Friday handed down a death sentence to LaJeromeny Brown after the same jury convicted Brown on Tuesday of killing Huntsville police officer Billy Clardy III.

Brown shot Clardy three times in December 2019 while Clardy was working an undercover drug operation.

Brown was in Huntsville to sell 100 pounds of marijuana, testimony suggested.

The jury was split 10-2 in the vote on sentencing Brown to death.
